Announcement: $420 Million approved for the Mark Clark Expressway

After years of hard work by many, and countless hours by Chairman Stavrinakis, Charleston County will receive $420 Million to extend the Mark Clark Expressway.  The extension will free up many congested traffic areas west of the Ashley and will provide the thousands of residents with a more efficient evacuation route.  The Chairman’s response, “Without the help of House Speaker Bobby Harrell, Senator Glen McConnell, Mayor Joe Riley and many others, we could not have gotten this done and I want to thank all of those who made this happen.”

Announcement Speech

Good Afternoon & Welcome.

Charleston County is a special place and I am proud to have served on County Council for the last seven years. I am proud to have worked across party lines to fight out of control growth, improve planning, and to have never, ever voted for a property tax increase. We have great people in this county - people of faith, people who take pride in their neighborhoods and who take pride in their families. We are a truly blessed community.
