Ensuring a Quality Education for All Students

While we have many quality schools in Charleston County, we have far too many schools that are failing to equip children with the education they need to succeed and achieve the life of their dreams. In the legislature, I have worked to boost K-12 funding, and expand the availability of Pre-K. In fact, I have pushed to make Pre-K available to children statewide. I have always been the go-to person for our local schools when they have needed help in the legislature. That kind of commitment to education and proven record are exactly what our community has to have going forward.

Our education challenge does not stop at high school. We must continue to work to develop higher education degree offerings and worker training programs that ensure Charlestonians are qualified and prepared for the high paying jobs being created by our port, our manufacturers, and knowledge based industries. I am proud to have helped authorize the College of Charleston to offer more advanced degrees and to have helped secure over 20 million dollars for the construction of an aviation training facility at Trident Tech.
